Plumbing problems

There are many things a parent never wants to hear his son say on a weeknight. Here's a new one: "We got a major problem in the back bathroom."

It's bad enough when the last five minutes of "24" were interrupted, and it's even worse when, well, there was a major problem in the back bathroom.

Water was flying out of the toilet and had been unfortunately for quite some time. The soaked carpet almost had standing water on it, and water was backed up in the shower.

In the other bathroom, water was backed up several inches in the bathtub and to the top of the toilet as well. Step one was shutting off the water. Step two was soaking up water with towels and pulling up carpet. Step three was getting a plumber in today.

Water did recede, but nothing was flushing. And as we all discovered this morning, you never know how much you need a bathroom until you really need a bathroom.

And, as of 11:30 a.m., thanks to plumber Barry Vaughn, the major clog has been unclogged. Could have been better, could have been worse.
