A good Tex-Mex stop

El Camino's in Tulia does not have the market cornered on good Mexican food on a trip between Amarillo and Lubbock. Plainview has a Mexican food restaurant that is not bad at all.

Taqueria Jalisco is heartily recommended. I'd forgotten how good that place is until I ate there twice over the weekend. It's easy access off I-27. Take the main exit off the interstate in Plainview. Jalisco is located in the south edge of the shopping center there just across from the J.C. Penny's outlet store.

The food is good, really good, especially if you like cheese liberally ladled on your enchiladas and chili rellenos. The Spanish rice is light and fluffy.

But the best thing in this restaurant which is expanding, is the cost. You have to hunt hard to find a dinner among the more than 40 choices that's over $6.95. I mean, you can go fast-food Mexican food and pay that much. When three people are stuffed and pay just more than $20 for the entire bill, that's good. For those who like an adult beverage with their Mexican food, they are in the process of obtaining a liquor license.

Plus, they aren't chintzy on the chips and the service is fast. I'd eaten there a couple of times during football season, and then got reaquainted with the place last weekend when my son had a baseball tournament in Lubbock. I ate there on both Friday and Saturday, which was one less than Patrick Vigil, who ate there twice Friday and once Saturday.

Don't tell them I sent you because they won't have the foggiest notion what you're talking about. But give it a try. I don't think you'll be sorry.
