Have Mustang, will raffle

Jack Barnes won the Toot 'n Totum 2010 Ford Mustang in a raffle last week during the United Way victory luncheon. Barnes has yet to take it for a spin, and, in fact, he won't.

When I read the Barnes was one of five finalists in the raffle, I knew the president of America Supports You Texas would do this if he won.

He's donating the car to the organization to help raise money for ASY projects. America Supports You Texas supports local active military personnel as well as veterans in many ways, from barbecue send-offs to Welcome Home rallies at the airport, from the large Armed Forces banquet in May to the Honor Flights to send World War II veterans to Washington to see the WW II Memorial.

He said last week that American Airlines will give them a second plane to send World War II vets to Washington in 2010. But it still means a lot of money needs to be raised, more so than ever. What better way to raise it than through a new Mustang.

Seldom have I seen someone so focused on a project as Barnes, a native of Perryton and retired Navy. I can't think of many who would do what Barnes has done. In fact, I can only think of one.
