Merry Christmas to the political parties

Passing along an e-mail I got this morning. And I have to admit, it's kinda funny, and probably because there's a strong bit of sarcastic truth in it.

"To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

"I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere.

"Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

"To All My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Ugh. I'll be happy when "PC" or, rather, "anti-PC" humor finally plays itself out.

Nobody actually says things like "vertically challenged" or "other-intelligenced Americans" or "Happy Non-Denominational Winter Solstice Celebration." And if they did, they'd be laughed at by everyone, left and right.

It's a straw man, built up for the sake of deriding the other side. And it's silly.

I know I sound humorless here. I'm not, I don't think. I just get tired of this "make fun of the OTHERS" mentality that seems to pervade forwarded e-mails.

Merry Christmas!

I totally agree with you Shuey. I'm a democrat (Yes there are a few of us in Oklahoma...granted, very few, but a few.) and I never talk the way this e-mail describes. If you didn't know my political affiliation you'd think I sounded like any other good old boy, John Q Public, working-class American, all of which I am, and damned proud to be so. I can laugh at myself when the joke resembles who I really am. That's not a problem at all, but it's long since got old when friends & family send e-mails like the one in this blog that don't resemble me or any other democrat I know...at all. He says "there's a strong bit of sarcastic truth in it", but I think he's full of crap. Oh, and by the way Mr. Beilue, y'all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Jon Mark, this is great! I got a real kick out of this Christmas greeting. May I use it (with proper credit to you, of course) on my next year's Christmas card.
