There's no rescheduling in football!

Word has come through about an hour ago that tonight's Class 2A Division II quarterfinal football playoff game between Bushland and Crane, scheduled for 7 p.m. in Frenship, has been postponed until 2 p.m. Saturday.

What? If there's no crying in baseball, there's no rescheduling in football.

This postponement was the wishes of the Crane ISD, which is south of Odessa. They don't see much snow that way, and when it does, people break out into a full-blown panic. Crane apparently had a couple of inches of snow this morning. School officials are afraid that snow and ice on roads south of Lubbock would make travel too dangerous.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but my guess it would be business as usual if this were Bushland facing the same weather conditions.

"I'm furious," said Bushland coach David Flowers. "We were all jacked up and ready to go."

Flowers said the Bushland ISD had little recourse when Crane requested the change.

"If they think the roads are unsafe, there's not a whole lot we can do," he said. "I told our superintendent, 'Shoot, let me drive down there and check the roads out myself.'"

Babies!! How many teams have traveled under much worse conditions than that? I'm sorry for Coach Flowers and Bushland, but hopefully it will give them the impetus to give Crane something to really cry about tomorrow. Thanks, Jon Mark, for the quick heads up on this change. We were almost walking out the door for a 4 hour road trip to the game tonight. You saved us a trip with your timely information even though we are tremendously disappointed. Go Bushland!

I am all for playing in the snow or unfavorable conditions. It is football. On the other hand, what if one of the buses crashed and killed some the players? What would your next blog be about? Why couldn't they have moved the game to Saturday?

Wow! I remember once we had to do this in Dimmitt, back when you and I were much younger. Dimmitt was playing Abernathy, 1980 or so. Basketball game was moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Lots of headaches. Otherwise, we always just WENT ANYWAY, and I bet your Groom Tigers did too. Two inches of snow is NOTHING. I think there is more to this than meets the eye.

Yea it is unfortunate, but weather can do crazy things even if it was just two inches of snow. I guess he'll just have to get them jacked up tomorrow too.

Jon Mark -

I totally see your point. Panhandle towns take even 3 inches of snowfall with a grain of salt and just ease on down the road. But, having lived in Austin from 1983-2004 and winessing the absolute regional emergency shut-down of all but vital services pandamonium caused by the once-a-decade 1 inch "snowfall" that Travis County and the Hill Country experience, I'd just as soon the Crane Cranes stay roosted until dry pavement prevails.

Besides, with 20/20 hindsight, a night game in sub-freezing temps last night at Bivins caused multiple turnovers which can be directly attributed to the weather. Stratford, in even 40-degree daytime weather conditions, could have avoided allot of fumbles, interceptions, ...

Perhaps Bushland will have a more efficient game played in 40-50 degree afternoon conditions today than they would have in a sub-freezing Tiger Stadium last night.
