Happy 84th to "Slick"

The Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude on Saturday afternoon became the scene for a birthday blowout for James Field, who turned 84. About 20 or so were in attendance, including this interloper.

James has had his share of setbacks lately, but the man who has encouraged hundreds through his letters, is not letting things get him down. He was in high spirits, and enjoyed the afternoon. He had his share of birthday cards and a few gifts, but friends and family was what he really enjoyed.

Some of his older buddies were calling him "Slick." Unbeknownst to me, he got that nickname as a smooth operator for the Southland Eagles back in the day.
