Last May the Soapbox Derby in Amarillo was revived for the first time in more than 25 years. Despite dodging raindrops, the event, with approxmiately 22 cars, was a great success for the first year.
It's scheduled again for this year on NW 24th, but for any drivers and parents interested, it would be a good idea to make a stop Saturday at the Street Toyota-Scion on 4500 S. Soncy (say that fast three times) for an assembly party.
Organizers, led by the enthusiastic Wayne Osteen, will be available for 9 a.m. to noon to answer questions, to demonstrate technique and to hand out information. It's a great little one-on-one seminar for those thinking of racing in the real thing in May.
In addition, there's free food and drink as well as a live radio remote. Plus, it's all inside Street's expansive layout.
