It's great to be a man

I spoke Monday to around 150 women with the Amarillo Christian Women's Connection at the Southwest Church of Christ. Why I was invited to speak is anyone's guess, but a good time was had by all in a 1950s theme complete with hoola-hoop, bubble gum-blowing and a match-that-tune-with-musician-contest.

Men were vastly outnumbered. There were a few husbands there, but no more than 10 or so. I did feel the need to speak up on behalf of my testosterone brothers and let these ladies know that it's great to be a man.

And here were just a few reasons:

1. We never bypass a gas station because it's "icky."
2. We only have to shave from the neck up.
3. If we have to get to work by 8 a.m., we can get up at 7:30 a.m.
4. Two guys can watch a game for three hours, not say a word to each other, and not one time think, "I wonder if he's mad at me."
5. We believe bathroom towel racks to be a luxury.
6. Underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
7. We can shop for five relatives on Dec. 23 and be done in an hour.
8. And, best of all, we can go to a party and see a person dressed exactly like us, and not only are we not horrified, but that person may end up being our best friend.
