Brandon Pofahl, a member of the Bike & Build team that came through Amarillo earlier this week on a cross-country trek from Boston to Santa Barbara, Calif., took a stab Sunday night at the 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan.
Pofahl, from Minnesota, is young, fit and was hungry. But still couldn't quite down the 4 1/2 pounds of steak, baked potato, salad, and shrimp cocktail in the one-hour time limit.
"They brought that thing out and I did a double-take," he said. "Time was a factor. I just chewed too much."
He got all but 7.4 ounces of down, but couldn't finish. The tab for that is more than $70 if not entirely consumed. Pofahl said he was hungry again though by lunch the following day.
And Bike & Build got a brief forum at the Big Texan to tell about its mission of raising awareness for affordable housing in the United States.
