The family should share in the blame

I'm not buying the allegations of the family of Miracuelos Fuentes, which claimed Child Protective Services did not do enough in the months leading up to the 3-year-old's death Tuesday from "acute abuse."

CPS spokesman Greg Cunningham said case workers for the last eight years have been in and out of the family's home on allegations of neglect, abuse and lack of supervision. Nailing down what went on in the home has been difficult over the years because boyfriends continually came and went, he said.

How about pointing a finger at a family that had little regard for a home structure? The mother, 26, had eight children from ages to 1 to 11 from four different men, two of whom are in prison.

Eight from four men in 11 years. You got to be kidding me. How about some responsibility to fall on a family with little regard for producing children who will be ill-equipped to be cared for?

In June 2005, the children were removed on abuse allegations by CPS. The mother went through a program with CPS and her children were returned two months later.

Sometimes CPS' hands are tied and this may be one of them. Now saddest of all, a little 3-year-old is dead from abuse. His mother and latest boyfriend are being sought by authorities. (Update: They are now in custody as of late Thursday night.)

It's not been a good week at CPS I'm sure. They're probabably second-guessing what they could have done. But it's this mother, her boyfriend of the month and her continual producing of babies that created a toxic and sad situation.

I COMPLETELY AGREE with you Jon Mark. It is HER fault. If HER family knew of the trouble and abuse going on in the home why didn't they do anything about it??? It's always easier to blame someone else for your own wrong I guess. Maybe she should try to keep her legs closed???? Crazy idea right?!?!?

Couldn't agree more.

You are absolutely right. What a family! No one cared about this child or the other children . . . don't blame anyone but the mother, all her boyfriends and the rest of ther "family". What a shame!

Let's say that the family was being honest, and they did call CPS and do what they could to protect the kids. What else can they do? Take the children from their mother? That's kidnapping. They called CPS, and CPS went and checked out the house and decided everything was okay.

I agree that the mother did all of this and ...can you say: BIRTH CONTROL. I can't imagine that a 26 year old would enjoy being the mother of 9. I don't feel bad for her in regards to how many children she has, because she made that decision. This woman should undoubtedly be locked up, and stopped from procreating. I wish we could force her to become sterile...

The family may or may not have been able to do more.... but one thing is for sure, the family certainly had an impact on the mothers outcome. Yes, some get away from a bad family and turn out okay, some come from a good family and go bad. No matter how you look at it, more times than not, our familys and background have a major impact on how we live our lives as adults. However, when all is said and done, the truth remains... a little child is dead and the mother failed, miserably, in her parenting responsibilities!

John Mark Beilue, I can't believe you mean to let the CPS off the hook here. "Maybe their hands were tied", so what??? So untie them, for heaven's sake, so this child would be alive today. How many dead children do the CPS need before they can get their hands untied? And wouldn't it be better for these children to be "kidnapped" as one blogger called it, than to be dead? And when you use the word "family" here, do you mean the mother and the boyfriend-of-the-month, or do you mean the extended family whom we see pictured here holding a photo of Miracuelous? Yes, maybe they would, or should, have been able to offer some help over the years, but they don't have the authority that the CPS supposedly have. "Their hands were tied", my foot!! That is the lamest excuse I've ever heard. And a child is dead. And it won't be the last...

I am so tired of hearing there are " procedures " This lady was investigated several times and still the children were left in her hands. I say get better procedures. You all have Parenting skill pamplets for parents. What about when we actually ask for help and they tell you, there are procedures. My prayers go out to the children left behind by Miracuelos.

Facts:
In 2007 CPS removed 71 children from 556 cases filed in Potter Co. CPS removed 167 of 215 cases in Randall Co. Now, I'm not a math wizard, but do you notice anything here? "Hands tied" YES!!! CPS prepares and takes the cases before a county attorney and then possibly before a judge. That's where the hands become tied. If the attorney and judge (from Potter Co!! DUH) will not take the case, CPS can do NOTHING except wait for what they fear may happen next.

I'm like MOST people. When I hear these stories of child abuse, neglect and murder of children, it makes me so angry and sick to my stomach and soul. I hate that children have to suffer and pay for the ignorance and sickness of pathetic adults. But I also know that there is GOOD and BAD in EVERY family. And I realize that anything can happen to any of us. The cycles continue and don't get broken. I'm a Catholic, but stories like this make me condone birth control, and despise meddlesome fanatics trying to tell me what to do with my body and my life. Another thing, there are medications that can be prescribed for rage, depression, anxiety and bipolar diseases. Families need to pass this information to troubled people like this Diana mother. I am willing to bet that she and her brother James were abused severely by pathetic parents also. Did anybody try to get these people help or medications ??? Did they try to help themselves ??? Rage and brain chemical imbalances are a sickness/disease just like diabetes or heart disease. Everything will always be in God's hands. And the peace of God, which SURPASSES ALL COMPREHENSION shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phi 4:7 After all is said and done, HE is in charge. We just have to have faith through all the horrible things in this world, and continue praying and TRYING to make things better. I will be praying for the rest of Diana's children, and the surviving families who loved little precious 3 year old Miracuelos. He did not deserve what he got throughout his short life, and people have to pay and be held accountable.
